A couple of weeks ago Gina and I visited Peter and Susan Kohl’s buffalo ranch located in Belton, Missouri. Peter has been a vendor at the City Market since 2002 and I believe he has been is stall 87 since day one. Peter was at his 2nd job when we arrived, I knew he would be. In addition to raising buffalo, Peter has a furniture restoration business. I really do not know how they find the time or energy to do all of this.

Susan greeted us when we arrived and showed us what she could in spite of the water-saturated yard. Their ranch is beautiful and they raise nothing but contented buffalo. We met Brutus shortly after we arrived. Trust me when I say you can’t miss him. He isn’t very old and is still growing.

They have around 300 head of buffalo who roam freely on the ranch munching on grass and hanging out in the shade. In addition to selling their products at the City Market every Saturday, you can also purchase meat directly from their farm. The drive to Belton would make a great day trip and the sight of buffalo hanging out in the fields is worth seeing. For more information on the benefits of eating buffalo and KC Buffalos product list visit their web site. www.kcbuffalo.com
